OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The work to rebuild the Oak Island pier that was damaged a year and a half ago by Hurricane Matthew finally began two weeks ago and crews are making good progress.
TD Eure Marine Construction says they have 18 employees who will work rain or shine to build the new pier.
Owner Andrew Law says they have put in 26 sets of pilings so far. Framing of the new pier will begin next week.
The workers ask that you avoid the beach between Barbee Boulevard and Keziah Street for your safety.
The crew will work through May. After that, an environmental moratorium will be in effect until the fall.
