Wounded Marine gets free house in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) — A retired Marine sergeant wounded in
Iraq will get a new five-bedroom log home.
Vincent Gizzarelli and his wife have two teens and serve as
foster parents to three young brothers with disabilities.
The Gizzarellis will move from a three-bedroom rental home when
their free house is completed in Jacksonville early next year.
This is the first North Carolina project for Operation Finally
Home, a program sponsored by a Texas-based nonprofit organization.
The group has built 12 homes for wounded or disabled veterans.
Gizzarelli learned about the gift while visiting John Boy and
Billy’s radio show broadcast from WRFX-FM in Charlotte.
Gizzarelli left the Marine Corps in 2009 after suffering
traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress and shrapnel wounds.
