WPD and NHCSO searching woods following chase

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Several Wilmington officers and New Hanover deputies are searching a wooded area in Wilmington for evidence.

The search area is off of Old Castle Hayne Road. Deputies said they are assisting WPD officers with the search. WPD’s gang unit, along with K-9 units, are among the couple dozen investigators on scene.

Officers on scene said four men and and one woman have been detained in connection with a chase that started in the area. The low-speed chase ended on Nixon Street, officers said.

Investigators believed the suspects threw contraband in the woods. No word on what led to the chase.
