WPD: Investigators work to get warrants in semi vs. bike death
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington Police spokeswoman says investigators are working to get warrants for criminal charges in the death of a bicyclist on S. 17th Street in Wilmington earlier this week.
This afternoon Wilmington Police spokeswomen Linda Thompson and Cathryn Lindsay both told WWAY the investigation is still open, but they did not believe any charges will be brought forward.
This evening, though, Thompson said things had changed and that investigators would pursue charges. Thompson said she did not know yet what those charges would be, nor could she release the name of the suspect.
Monday afternoon’s crash killed Megan McClellan, 20. She was a newlywed who worked at the Zaxby’s on S. 17th Street off S. College Road. Reports say she was hit by a tractor trailer as she headed to the restaurant.
A GoFundMe account was started to help pay for the funeral arrangements. If you’d like to help, click here.
