WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Bomb Squad is investigating a series of small mailbox explosions that happened between noon today and 4:30 p.m.
Police and fire officials were dispatched to the areas where four mailboxes and one trash can were all destroyed by some type of incendiary device.
The incidents occurred in the following locations: 3500 block of Stratford Blvd, 3800 block of Winston Blvd., 5300 blk of Andover Rd., 4700 block of Cedar Ave, and the 4800 of Maple Ave.
No injuries have been reported.
We tried speaking with some of the folk’s whose mailboxes were hit but we couldn’t get anyone to talk with us on camera about it.
One man did tell us though, he heard a loud boom when it happened but did not see anyone who may have done it. He went on to say police spent a couple hours at their house trying to figure out just who did it.
Witnesses say a small silver car, possibly Honda Civic, with two men inside were seen leaving several of the explosion locations.
Police are asking residents to report any suspicious activity around mailboxes to the police by calling 910-343-3609 or text-a-tip at 274637 then start your message with Tip708 then your tip.
