WPD cruiser involved in crash in Leland

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington Police car was involved in an accident this morning in Brunswick County.

Leland Police say it happened just after 8 a.m. on Village Road. The accident report says the WPD car was turning left on to the US 17 South ramp when another car driven by Calvin Hale ran a red light and hit it.

WPD spokeswoman Linda Rawley said two officers, who were on their way to training, were in the cruiser when the accident happened. She said she did not believe they were hurt. Rawley did not know the extent of the damage to the car.

Leland Police cited Hale for running the red light.
