WPD: Former employee caught stealing cases of beer

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police arrested a man they say was caught stealing cases of beer out of a delivery truck at a Wilmington distribution company he used to work for.

They say just after midnight Wednesday, officers got a call reporting an auto break-in at R. A. Jeffreys Distribution Company at 805 North 23rd Street. Police say a worker who called to report the crime spotted an ex-employee enter a delivery truck there before loading several cases of beer into his own vehicle.

Police say when workers approached the man, who was identified as James Brown, 22, he took off running away from the business, leaving his vehicle behind. Officers obtained warrants for Brown’s arrest, but they say he later turned himself in.

Brown is charged with the breaking and entering of an auto. He was booked in the New Hanover County Jail, but was later released.
