WPD hosts annual Santa Cop event

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Santa made an early stop in the Cape Fear today. The Wilmington Police Department hosted its annual Santa Cop event.

Dozens of kids got Christmas presents from folks who work at the police department. On top of the surprises, the children also got a special tour of the police department.

“I got to saw the police car, I got to saw the helicopter and I got to see all the sirens,” participant Steven Smith said. “And I also got to see the dogs and horses.”

The children selected for Santa Cop were referred by area schools. Many of them suffered a family tragedy in the past year.
