911 call reveals man, woman argued before deadly Wilmington stabbing

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Screams pierced the air before a woman’s body was found at an apartment complex in Wilmington, according to a neighbor who called 911.

“My neighbor was screaming ‘someone call 911’ and I ran outside and there’s someone bloody upstairs laid out in front of her door, I don’t know what’s going on,” the caller tells the 911 operator.

The caller told the operator a man and woman were arguing earlier.

“I went outside, they were arguing earlier tonight and I went to complain about them,” the caller said.

While on the phone with 911, the caller then tells dispatch another neighbor just came up and told him the victim was dead.

Wilmington Police say Yolanda Bentley, 56, was stabbed early Thursday morning. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

It happened at Hanover Landing Apartments, 3429 Wilshire Boulevard, around 2:40 a.m.

This is the city’s second homicide of the year.

Neighbors are shocked.

“That is very crazy, but things happen. It doesn’t seem like this is that type of complex really, but there is drug activity going on you can tell that,” said Chris Caudill.
