WPD investigating after 7-year-old girl, man injured in shooting


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Investigators with the Wilmington Police Department are looking for those responsible for a shooting that hurt a little girl and man.

Police said they received a ShotSpotter Alert around 9:55 p.m. at 7th and Queen streets. Police said when they arrived, they found a 24-year-old man shot in the thigh who would not cooperate. They also found a woman and her 7-year-old daughter. The woman said she saw the man talking to someone in a silver sedan when she was walking with her child.

After she saw him, she told police she heard several gunshots. Her daughter then started screaming. She discovered a bullet grazed her child’s ear. Both were taken to the hospital and treated.
