WPD investigating more shootings this week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s been a busy week for ShotSpotter activations in Wilmington.

A WPD spokeswoman said the most recent incidents happened yesterday. The first happened around 10:30 a.m. in the area of Meares Street and Greens Alley. Witnesses told officers they saw two men in hoodies leaving the area and shooting. No injuries were reported, but shell casings were found, police said.

The second shooting was reported just before 5 p.m. in the 1600-block of S. 11th Street. Police said a vehicle was found with several gunshots on the driver side, but no injuries were reported.

Earlier this week, police responded to several other ShotSpotter notifications in the city.
