WPD: looking for driver who stole car, hit officer
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are looking for a driver who they say stole a car and hit a police officer Friday.
According to Wilmington Police Spokesperson, Cathryn Lindsay, the driver stole a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer and hit two parked cars and he fled in the area of 16th and Castle. Shortly after, two officers directing traffic at the intersection of Brookwood Avenue and Market Street confronted the driver. The driver had stopped in traffic, but when the officers approached him, he accelerated, hitting one of the officers and almost hitting the other.
The SUV was found a short time later on Pauline Lane, but the driver had left on foot.
