WPD: Man walking down street with loaded gun, threatening to kill

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – A Wilmington man is in custody after police say he threatened to kill people with a loaded long gun.

Spokeswoman Linda Rawley says police responded to the 500 block of Maides Avenue around 8:50 pm Monday evening and found 39 year old Ernest Fleming walking down the street with a loaded gun talking to himself and threatening to kill someone.

Police say they gave Fleming several commands and he failed to comply.  Rawley says officers then deployed a less-lethal weapon which fires bean-bag rounds and were able to secure Flemings gun and took him into custody.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment on “non-serious” injuries. Charges are pending.
