WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department said officers responded to a hotel in reference to a naked man.

WPD said the incident happened just before 9 p.m. on Sunday at a hotel in the 4700 block of Market Street.

Police said the naked man was causing damage to hotel property and approaching guests in the lobby.

Authorities said the suspect was identified as Eliot Watkins, 33, of Wilmington.

Officers said they found Watkins in a wooded area near the hotel, and saw him run away into a nearby retention pond.

WPD said as Watkins attempted to leave the pond, he kicked an officer.

Watkins was taken into custody and has been charged with Indecent Exposure, assault on a Government Official, Disorderly Conduct, Injury to Personal Property, and Misdemeanor Larceny.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
