WPD proposes Real Time Crime Center
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous is asking City Council to help fund a new Real Time Crime Center at WPD Headquarters. The chief said the center will help keep both citizens and officers safe.
Evangelous said the center would have several analysts and officers in a situation room with access to public and private video feeds and more than 20 databases they don’t have access to right now.
Tonight Evangelous is asking City Council for $228,000 in federal money to build a center at WPD Headquarters including all the equipment for inside. He said personnel will be taken care of if the city budget is approved.
“We’re hoping that our law enforcement partners will all come on board with this once they see the success, once they see it running. My vision is to have the sheriff’s department and all the other agencies in the county all integrated into this,” Evangelous said.
He adds the center will help officers be better prepared for when they respond to situations like armed robberies or shootings because they will have more information before they arrive on the scene.
City Council meets tonight at 6:30.
