WPD searching for attempted armed robbery suspect

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are searching for a man after an attempted armed robbery Wednesday night.

Sgt. Leslie Irving with WPD says a man wearing a Halloween mask entered the Dollar General on Market Street around 10:30 p.m. as employees were leaving.  Irving says the man forced the employees back inside and demanded cash.

Employees say the money had already been locked up, and when the suspect heard the alarm, he ran off.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 6 feet tall with an average build.  He was wearing a black hoodie, gray pants and gloves.
