WPD: Two charged in Tuesday shootings


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police have charged two men in connection with three shootings that happened Tuesday.

Police said the shootings happened in this order: first two around 2:30 p.m. in the 1000-block of Wellington Avenue and in the 300-block of Sumter Drive and around 6:20 p.m. in the Houston Moore housing development. In the three instances no one was hit but property was damaged.

After the third shooting, police said they stopped a car in the 2400-block of Carolina Beach Road and arrested the two men inside. Damentez Lottees Johnson, 17, is facing charges including discharging a firearm within city limits and going armed to the terror of the public. Police said Johnson is a validated gang member and they believe he was the intended target in the Sumter Drive shooting and retaliated.

Police said the other man in the car, Jordan Michael Gregory, 25, is facing charges including contributing to the delinquency of a minor. A third man was in the vehicle but wasn’t charged, police said.
