WPD: Two men hit same victim’s car within minutes, drove away
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are looking for two men who, within minutes of each other, struck the same victim’s car and drove away.
Officers responded to the Dollar General on Dawson Street in Wilmington around 4 p.m. on Jan. 20 where a woman who was shopping was alerted by a witness that her car had been backed into by two different men. Police say both immediately left the scene, despite causing considerable damage to the victim’s car.
The victim was parked legally and properly within the lines of the parking spot
A witness told police that the first man, later identified as Spencer Sutton Coombs, Jr., backed his tan Ford Explorer into the victim’s car, breaking the tail lights and damaging the rear bumper. The witness was able to get a description of the suspect and his registration number before he drove away.
The witness then stated another man, later identified as Johnny McDonald, immediately struck the victim’s car at such a rate that caused the victim’s vehicle to move and causing damage before he took off. The witness was also able to get a description of the driver and the registration plate.
Coombs, 73 of Wilmington, is charged with for expired inspection, failure to see before backing, and hit and run leaving the scene with property damage, and for McDonald, 62 of Leland, for failure to see before backing, and hit and run leaving the scene with property damage.
