Police: Two recovering after fight leads to stabbing in downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two men are recovering after a stabbing in Downtown Wilmington over the weekend. Now, one is facing charges.

49-year-old William Glenn Thornton, Sr. is charged with assault in the stabbing of Darcy Allen Ferguson, 35.

Wilmington Police say both men were transported to the hospital after the incident Sunday and remain hospitalized.

WPD says Ferguson, the victim sustained life-threatening injuries during the attack and is in stable condition. Thornton, the suspect sustained injuries as well. No word on his condition.

Police arrived at a parking lot near 122 Market Street around 5 p.m. and found Thornton assaulting Ferguson.

Police believe the attack happened after a fight between the two men, who are believed to be homeless.

Thornton is in police custody at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He will be officially charged after his release from the hospital.
