WPD: Drunk driver smacks police car Saturday night
WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — A drunk driver tried to back out of a parking space at 2nd and Market Streets Saturday night. A couple of WPD officers tried to tell him that he was about to hit a police car parked in the space immediately behind him, but he continued backing and crunched into the cruiser. The driver was detained and arrested for DWI. No injuries resulted from the collision, but there was minor damage to both vehicles.
On Sunday morning at 2:22 a.m., a citizen reported that a man was pointing a handgun at people in the 200 block of Princess Street. A responding WPD supervisor located and detained the suspect. Charles Calvin Jefferson, d.o.b. 3-11-1988, of Shallotte, had a .45 Ruger handgun in his waistband. No victims came forward to accuse him of pointing the weapon, so he was charged only with carrying a concealed weapon. He has since been released from custody.
