WPD: Suspect caught robbing appliance store
Time: 12:36 a.m. – Saturday morning
Location: 1302 S 3rd Street – Roy’s Appliances
Offense: Felony B & E
Summary: A WPD officer responding to a reported break-in spotted a man matching the suspect description walking away from the scene. The officer detained the man for questioning. Based on further investigation and an eyewitness account, officers were able to determine that the man had broken into the building by prying open a door with a tire iron.
The property owner had not been located at the time of the report, so officers were not immediately able to determine if anything had been taken.
Henry Batts, d.o.b 1-10-1963, was charged with Felon B & E and Possession of burglary tools. He is in custody at the New Hanover County detention facility under $20,000 secured bond.
