WPD: Two caught trying to rob motorcyle dealership

Location: 5725 Market Street – Honda Suzuki motorcycle dealership
Offense: B&E, Possession of Burglary Tools

Summary: A WPD officer discovered that the glass door to the dealership had been shattered. Then he spotted two men and chased them toward the adjacent wooded area. Additional officers responding to the area established a perimeter.

Meanwhile, another officer detained a man who appeared to be waiting in an SUV behind a business less than a block away. A New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit responded to assist, due the WPD K-9 unit already being out on the robbery on Darlington. SABLE also responded.

The canine unit located discarded burglary tools in the woods and then tracked to an unlocked shed within 100 yards of the SUV. A 15-year- old (juvenile) male was discovered hiding in the shed. The driver of the SUV, Louis M. Herring, Jr., d.o.b. 7-12-91, had several burglary tools, walkie talkies and a gas can in the vehicle. He was arrested and charged with B & E and Possession of burglary tools, and placed under a $7500 secured bond.

The juvenile was transported to the juvenile detention center. A third suspect is still at large. The case is under investigation.
