Wright will have competition if he runs

WILMINGTON — If Rep. Thomas Wright runs for re-election despite his legal troubles, he will undoubtedly have some competition.

Community leader and local activist Hollis Briggs spoke exclusively with NewsChannel 3 about his plans to run for state representative in the 18th district.

Briggs doesn’t have political experience, but he is involved in many community groups.

Briggs says Wright’s legal problems keeps him from adequately representing voters in New Hanover and Pender County.

Wright’s attorney says his client plans to run for re-election in November. No word on when Briggs will file with the Board of Elections.
