Wrightsville Beach landmark restaurant closing after 32 years
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — After 32 years in business, the Causeway Cafe is shutting down.
According to a post on Facebook, the Wrightsville Beach restaurant will close its doors on Sunday, November 4 after more than three decades in business.
The reason?
Owner Dave Monaghan is retiring. They called the news exciting, yet bittersweet.
“This restaurant has played such a huge role in our lives since 1987 as we’ve seen family, customers, employees, and our own selves grow up in these tables and booths. But as all good things must come to an end, we’re very much looking forward to spending more time with family and friends in wonderful Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington.”
In an interview with WWAY in 2016, Monaghan looked back on 30 years in business.
“It was designed as a southern beach style restaurant and if you look at the interior, I have not changed it in 30 years and everybody comes in and they say ‘thank you, it’s still what we remember,” Monaghan said.
The building was first built back in the 1950s as a bar, until Monaghan took it over in 1987.
The post said if anyone is interested in buying the Causeway, contact Dave Monaghan at dcmonaghan@gmail.com.
