Wrightsville Beach Mayor David Cignotti will not seek re-election in November.

“I'm a firm believer that someone must be 110 percent committed to running for public office and I've decided that I am not,” said Cignotti on Monday. “It's time for someone else to take on those duties.”

After serving on the New Hanover County beach town's planning board and in elected office for 14 years, including the last four as mayor, Cignotti decided to “enjoy stress free living in the greatest beach town in America,” according to a statement he put out over the weekend.
