Wrightsville Beach to cite helicopter that dropped cash on UNCW Beach Blast
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (StarNews) — A helicopter that flew low over hundreds of University of North Carolina Wilmington students celebrating the start of the new school year Tuesday at Wrightsville Beach is in hot water with town officials.
Calling the stunt “exceptionally irresponsible,” Wrightsville Beach Police Chief Dan House said the town was looking at charging the Oak Island-based helicopter company and pilot with several civil violations — including littering and flying a helicopter below 500 feet over a populated area.
“But we’re not quite there yet because we just don’t have something like this happen very often,” the chief said Wednesday afternoon.
