Wrightsville Beach preps for possible erosion

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Beach towns are taking precautions for possible beach erosion as a result of the storm. In the past, beaches in the Cape Fear have seen increased erosion following hurricanes and major storms.

Wrightsville Beach town manager Tim Owens said they start preparations at the beginning of the beach season. He said they plan to keep a watch on their beaches during the rest of the week.

“Anytime the surf picks up, you do have some erosion,” Owens said. “I’m hoping this is not one of those events, but we will take precautions as we can, probably tomorrow into Friday and make sure everybody stays safe.”

Red flags are already flying on the beaches and Owens said they are warning swimmers to be careful about rip currents.
