Wrightsville Beach Coast Guard collects toys
The Wrightsville Beach Coast Guard collected toys for needy children on Saturday. In all, they raised more than $5,000 in toys and a few hundred in monetary donations.
All proceeds benefit kids at the Domestic Violence Shelter in Wilmington.
People donated everything from teddy bears to toy trucks. One family did more way more than their share. Coast Guard Petty Officer First Class Liam Walmsley explained, “A station wagon pulled up full of toys and they got out and took a picture and they took the toys out and they said the picture they were going to give to their kids to show them what they have, what they’re donating.”
The Coast Guard will be collecting toys at the Monkey Junction Walmart from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. next weekend.
