FOXBOROUGH, MA (REVOLUTION) -– The New England Revolution has re-acquired former goalkeeper Brad Knighton through a trade with Vancouver Whitecaps FC today. Because Knighton (Twitter: @bbknighton) was eligible for the Re-Entry Process, which begins tomorrow, the teams had a 5 p.m. deadline today to complete trades. Knighton also opted out of the Re-Entry Process to facilitate the trade to his initial MLS club.

In exchange for Knighton, the Revolution traded a conditional pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft to Vancouver.

“We’re very pleased to be able to bring Brad back to the Revolution,” New England general manager Michael Burns said. “We rate Brad highly and we did not expect him to be available to us tomorrow with the 12th pick of the Re-Entry Draft’s first round. We’re looking forward to him coming back to New England.”

Knighton, 28, re-joins the Revs after spending the last four seasons with Philadelphia, the Carolina Railhawks (NASL) and Vancouver. After beginning his MLS career in New England in 2007, he spent his first three professional seasons with the Revolution before Philadelphia selected him in the 2009 Expansion Draft, ahead of its inaugural season.

“My family and I couldn’t be more excited to be coming back to New England, where I began my career,” Knighton said. “I had three incredible years here and I couldn’t think of a better city, organization and team to return to. I can’t be happier this worked out.”

Knighton came to the Revolution’s 2007 preseason camp as an undrafted free-agent, and earned a roster spot after a strong training camp. He served as the team’s third-string goalkeeper in 2007 and most of 2008, before he became Matt Reis’ back-up late in 2008 following an injury to Doug Warren. Knighton moved into the back-up goalkeeper role in 2009 – and made his MLS debut on March 28 in a 1-1 draw at New York – before going on to make six starts throughout the year. He went 1-2-3 on the year with a 2.33 goals against average.

After Philadelphia picked him up in the 2009 Expansion Draft, he made eight starts for the Union during their first season in MLS. Knighton went 3-3-1 in those matches, posting two shutouts and a 1.10 goals against average. Philadelphia released him during preseason camp in 2011, and Knighton signed with his hometown Carolina Railhawks of the North American Soccer League, the U.S. second division. He earned NASL Best XI honors that season, making 28 appearances for the NASL regular-season champions.

In 2012, Carolina head coach Martin Rennie was hired as the Whitecaps’ head coach, and he brought Knighton with him to Vancouver. Knighton made 22 appearances – 19 starts – in the last two seasons in Vancouver, posting a combined 1.11 goals against average and five shutouts, while going 9-6-5 in two seasons. In 2013, he went 6-3-2 with a 1.36 GAA in 11 starts.

Vancouver declined Knighton’s 2014 contract option, making him available for the Re-Entry Process, but Knighton opted out of the Re-Entry Process to facilitate today’s trade.

CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) – Jameer Nelson had 12 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and the Orlando Magic snapped a six-game losing streak with a 92-83 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night.

Glen Davis added 17 points and 12 rebounds and Nikola Vucevic chipped in with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Arron Afflalo had 16 points.

Nelson came up with a big 3-pointer late for the Magic, and also had seven rebounds and six assists while outplaying fellow point guard Kemba Walker.

The Bobcats shot 37 percent from the field to see their two-game win streak come to an end.

Al Jefferson led Charlotte with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Walker, who had 31 points against Stephen Curry on Monday night, was held to 10 points on 4 of 18 shooting.

WILMINGTON, NC (UNCW) -– Senior right-side hitter Christi Laite and freshman outside hitter Nicole Lott have been named to the University Division All-State Volleyball Team by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA), the organization announced.

Laite, a First-Team selection, earned All-State accolades for the second time in her career after being recognized following her sophomore season in 2011. Lott, meanwhile, was named to the Second-Team.

A native of Severna Park, Md., Laite was a First-Team All-CAA honoree after pacing the Seahawks with 360 total kills (3.21 kills per set) and a .266 hitting percentage to rank among the top six players in the league in both categories. Laite also played a key role in the team’s defensive efforts, finishing third on the team with 94 total blocks to give her a 3.75 points per set average that ranked fourth among all players in the league.

Named to the All-Tournament Team at CAA Championship, Laite was named MVP of Navy’s Kristen Dickmann Invitational in August and also earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Seahawks’ three other regular-season events.

Lott enjoyed a standout rookie season that saw her become the first Seahawk player to earn both All-CAA and CAA All-Rookie accolades in her first season with the program. A native of West Chester, Pa., Lott posted averages of 2.25 kills and 1.98 digs per set to rank third and fourth, respectively, on the team in those categories. Lott also dished out 27 service aces to sit third in the CAA in that category and put the Seahawks among the 50 teams in the nation in service aces per set (1.47).

UNCW posted a 20-10 overall mark during the 2013 season, reaching the 20-win plateau for just the eighth time in program history and the first time since the 1995 campaign. The Seahawks qualified for the CAA Championship for the first time since the 2000 season, where they fell in the semifinals to tournament finalist Northeastern.
