WWII Veteran surprised on his 100th birthday

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY)–2021 is off to a good start for one World War II Veteran in Hampstead. Aaron Jones Sr. was surprised on Thursday for his 100th birthday.

Jones celebrated his special day with his friends and family by his side with plenty of surprises throughout the afternoon. The local honor guard marched in front of his home and he was presented with a flag by American Legion 167 for his service to the country in WWII.

Jones say he was overwhelmed by the number of people who came out to celebrate his birthday.

“I really appreciate this, I never realized that many people would turn out,” Jones says. “I expected it to be a rather quiet day.”

Jones also received a merit citation. All of our crew at WWAY-TV want to wish Mr. Jones a very happy birthday!
