Yard sale to benefit Burgwin Wright House

Dozens of shoppers in downtown Wilmington bought something new to help preserve something old.

A yard sale was held Saturday at the Burgwin Wright House and Museum on Market Street to raise money for the museum.

Volunteers were asked to donate any household items, antiques, and even baked goods to sell.

The Burgwin Wright House is a project of the Colonial Dames of America, a national organization that helps preserve historic structures across the county.

”In the 40’s it was just about to be torn down. The wrecking ball was ready to tear it down. The colonial dames bought the property and have kept it going all these years through fundraisers and private donations,” said Mary Eggleston of the Colonial Dames.

The Colonial Dames have 161 members in New Hanover County.
