Year-round schools start back today

It may be July, but for some New Hanover County kids, today meant heading back to school.

Year-round schools began classes again after a five week vacation.

Traditional public schools get 10 weeks. Two of the 24 public schools in the county, Codington and Eaton Elementary, are year-round schools.

Year-round does not exactly mean year round. Kids do have breaks spread throughout the year.

Both kids and parents were excited for the big day.

Codington parent Howard Hoadley said, “All of our friends have another five weeks to go, the kids kind of hate that, but at the same time they go back to school very easily. It’s not a big jolt. It’s a short summer so it went by really quick so there’s no time for them to really get bored.”

Margon Gray will take a closer look at the differences between traditional and year-round schools tomorrow on Good Morning Carolina.
