YMCA to honor fire crews

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington YMCA may still be closed, but this weekend folks are saying thanks to those who were there to fight the flames.

Although the building is still closed, the YMCA has many of its programs back up and running at alternate locations throughout the area. CEO Dick Jones says that is thanks to community support.

“It really is gratifying to know the impact that our programs and staff have had throughout the community,” Jones said.

The Y also wants to honor the emergency crews who were there when the flames broke out.

“When I was here on site, we had 13 different trucks and crews that were here from the fire department,” Jones said. “We had six different EMS vehicles that were here and they were battling the fire, the smoke, throughout the evening.”

Jones encourages folks to come out and show their thanks for all the crews do each and every day. The walk will be held Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the YMCA.
