YMCA van catches fire in front of Williston Middle School

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– A YMCA van caught on fire this afternoon just before school released for the day at Williston Middle School, according to New Hanover County Schools.

The van was picking up students at Gregory Elementary School.

No students were on the van. The driver managed to escape.

According to New Hanover County School’s Twitter feed, no one got hurt. Law enforcement and the Wilmington Fire Department are investigating.

The area around the van was blocked off.

The fire has been contained.

Sammy Flowers with the Wilmington Fire Department said it was an engine compartment fire, caused by mechanical issues.
