Your duck could win $1000 in the Coastal Duck Derby

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  The 3rd annual Coastal Duck Derby will feature some 15,000 ducks racing down Jungle Rapids’ volcano water slide and into the lazy river, where the first duck to cross the finish line wins $1000 for the person who adopted it.

Additional prizes are awarded for the next five ducks to cross the finish line, with Spirit Communications sponsoring a chance to win $100,000 if the 13th duck to cross the finish line is one of five preselected numbers. While not a guaranteed prize but a chance to win, should someone win the $100,000, Open House will also receive a $100,000 donation.

The event begins at 6:00 PM, Saturday, June 3 and features music, kids’ games, raffles and food at Wilmington’s Jungle Rapids Water Park, 5320 Oleander Drive.

Coastal Horizons Center’s Open House Youth Shelter is Wilmington’s only emergency youth shelter for at-risk youth who need a temporary safe place to call home during a family crisis. The nine-bed facility is committed to improving the safety and well-being of abused and/or neglected children and otherwise at-risk youth who are in need of a safe place to stay. While meeting the basic needs for food, clothing and shelter, Open House encourages personal growth through counseling services, vocational, educational and life-skill building and recreational activities.
