Lone commissioner holding community meeting on proposed budget
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County commissioner is holding a community meeting tonight on the proposed budget.
Commissioners recently voted to postpone the public hearing to June 19. That’s the same day they will vote on the proposed $327 million budget.
Commissioner Rob Zapple doesn’t think the public hearing and vote should be on the same day. That’s why he said he’s holding a meeting tonight at the historic county courthouse for residents to voice their opinion about the budget before the vote.
Commissioner Woody White told us recently the hearing was rescheduled because of a private conflict. When we reached out to other commissioners a couple of weeks ago, Patricia Kusek and Skip Watkins said they did not plan on attending the meeting.
