Zoning request approved for 300-acre development
WILMINGTON, NC(WWAY)–The City of Wilmington Planning Commission met tonight to discuss a number of issues including the future of nearly 300 acres of land on the north and south sides of Independence Boulevard between South 17th Street and Carolina Beach Road.
It’s owned by Cameron Properties Limited Partnership.
The City of Wilmington’s Planning Commission unanimously agreed to move forward with the project.
The plan would include multiple rental spaces and nearly 1,400 residential units.
Hill Rogers is a representative for Cameron Management. He says he understand that they still have a long road ahead of them.
“We have some work to do. We have to communicate with them and try to address those comments. I think there is some give and take. There is some misunderstanding, but I think there are some other things where we can better communicate to elevate those concerns and any misunderstandings,” said Rogers.
The rezoning, which would accommodate a large mixed-use development featuring apartments, offices and businesses, will now head to the city council, which ultimately has the authority to approve or deny the request.
