The Wilmington Police Department's 2010 crime stats also looked specifically at Downtown Wilmington. The police department says violent and property crimes were down 19 percent downtown during 2010, compared to the year before.

Fat Tony's Italian Pub recently donated $5,000 to the Cape Fear Literacy Council as a result of money raised by hosting the Wilmington Oktoberfest. The money raised will go directly toward programs at the Council that work with adults who need assistance in learning to read.
