Hoggard, Pender, South Columbus and Wilmington Christian all won state playoff volleyball games on Thursday night. Odds are we'll have at least one state champion from the area this year. On Thursday New Hanover won the boys soccer crown for the Mideastern Conference. We were there for that too. Plus, the Landfall Tradition tees off on Friday. On Wednesday New Hanover shutout Hoggard in boys soccer. We were there to see some of the action. The Wildcats will earn a league title if they can win on Thursday against Ashley. Four area volleyball teams will continue their state playoff journey on Thursday. In fact the Wilmington Christian squad has a shot at securing a state volleyball title this weekend in Greensboro. UNCW was the place to be on Wednesday for Seahawk sports. The nationally ranked men's soccer team won once again. The women's basketball team at UNCW held their annual media day. We were there for both. Full story...

Laney edged New Hanover in soccer on Thursday. We had a bird's eye view of the winning goal. The Wilmington Tigers are set to begin a football playoff run at home on Saturday under first year head coach Jay Ross. Full story...

New Hanover High doesn't shy away from a tough non-conference football schedule. The Wildcats travel to Laurinburg on Friday in order to play perennial power Scotland County. New Hanover head coach Kevin Motsinger told us on Thursday that he's more concerned with his team's play than the Scots. On Thursday we also checked out local soccer and volleyball action. Plus more! Former South Columbus football standout Ethan Farmer is trying to make the most out of his senior season for the North Carolina Tar Heels. Farmer and the Tar Heels are currently undefeated. The UNCW men's soccer team now has two victories this season over a nationally ranked opponent. The first one occurred last Friday. The Seahawks picked up their second on Tuesday. Thanks to a bit of creative editing a pair of New Hanover soccer players danced backwards on our sportscast on Monday night on WWAY. The UNCW women's soccer team didn't dance on Monday, but the Seahawks did shutout Coastal Carolina. Former Ashley soccer standout Stanley Broaden scored twice for Appalachian State on Monday.
