Orlando City was dubbed the 2014 USL PRO regular season champion following Wednesday night's scoreless draw against the Wilmington Hammerheads FC at Legion Stadium. We had high school soccer action from Bladen County on Tuesday night on WWAY between East Bladen and North Brunswick. The Eagles have only played six times this season. Former Laney High basketball standout Tamera Young saved the season for the WNBA Chicago Sky on Monday. Young made a basket that forced the game into overtime. Chicago ended up winning the playoff game in double overtime. Coincidentally, the UNCW men's soccer team also won in double overtime on Monday. Full story...

The Wilmington Hammerheads have suddenly caught fire. They've won two of their last three games. This includes a huge victory on Thursday over first place Orlando City. Two players on the Wilmington Hammerheads team have been suspended by USL Pro for their roles in an altercation on the soccer field last Saturday in California. Plus, the frontrunner for the play of the year for high school football appears to be a rushing touchdown from last week's West Columbus-East Columbus game. Full story...

Point deductions are costly. Just tell that to the Wilmington Hammerheads last year. It turned out to cost the team a playoff spot in 2013. Due to an altercation on Saturday between the Wilmington Hammerheads and the Orange County Blues there was a fairly good chance the Hammerheads may have to suffer a point deduction this season. David Irving is out as head coach of the Wilmington Hammerheads. The team today announced that, by mutual agreement, Irving is leaving his role and will no longer be involved in the day to day operation with the team. Full story...

David Irving didn't travel with the Wilmington Hammerheads for the three game road trip to California this week. The Hammerheads started the trip with a 2-0 to Sacramento FC Republic. It appears Irving won't be coaching the Hammerheads when they return to town next week either. We expect a full update on Thursday morning. Full story...
