videoWilmington's Derek Brunson won't be fighting in Brazil this weekend after all. Brunson's opponent was involved in a car accident just one day prior to their UFC fight. Justin Livengood is the first local baseball player to be selected in this week's MLB Draft. Livengood recently completed his senior season at UNCW. He also played for the Wilmington Sharks. videoThis was a weekend full of season enders. The season is over for the UNCW baseball team. The Seahawks lost to Elon at the NCAA's on Sunday. North Brunswick's baseball season ended this weekend. The Wilmington Sea Dawgs lost their final home game of the season. The Wilmington Hammerheads won on Saturday though. The Hammerheads are about to enter the middle stretch of their season. Baseball season ends for UNCW against Elon

The UNCW baseball team did not play well down the stretch this season. The Seahawks lost 7 out of their last 9 baseball games. Elon eliminated UNCW from the NCAA's on Sunday in Charlottesville, Virginia.

UNC Wilmington eliminates Army with triple play

Corey Dick homered and had three of UNC Wilmington's 16 hits, and the Seahawks eliminated mistake-prone Army from the NCAA tournament Saturday with a 9-5 victory that ended on a bizarre triple play.

videoThe Wilmington Sharks won their home opener on Wednesday night at Buck Hardee Field. The Sharks are off to a 2-0 start. The Portland Timbers beat the Wilmington Hammerheads in the US Open Cup. UNCW Chancellor Gary Miller plans to announce his decision on Thursday about whether to cut sports programs from the school's athletic department. Plus more!

WWAY's Tuesday night sports - May 28

videoIn 1950 Tanky Meier started coaching the New Hanover High boys tennis team. Meier was a volunteer coach from 1950 to 2011. The 90 year old died on Monday after a short illness. On our sports at 11pm we paid tribute to the first New Hanover grad to have a sports facility named after him. On Tuesday the Wilmington Sharks opened the 2013 season with a road win. Plus more!
