10 years later, Dillon Morris’ mother still searches for answers about her son’s death

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Friday marked 10 years since the shooting death of 20-year-old Dillon Morris and his killer is still on the loose.

Morris was found dead, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, lying next to a tree across from Greenfield Lake on December 27th, 2014.

In the years since, Dillon’s mother Jennifer Hatcher has continued to hope for any answers regarding her son’s death.

“I just want to keep his name out there, I just want his killer to be found, that’s all,” Hatcher said. “That’s all. It’s real difficult, just not knowing. I just want justice, just to know who took his life.”

Jennifer said Dillon was a good son, who didn’t have a mean bone in his body.

“He was a loveable person that anybody know him would tell you he was loveable. He didn’t have very many enemies that I knew of, didn’t know he had any because he was that loveable and that peaceful.”

Every year, Hatcher visits the tree that Dillon was lying up against, to honor and remember her son.

“It’s hurtful, it’s really hurtful to know that he took his last breath here,” Hatcher said. “To think was he calling for my help, just everything. I just want justice for him, that’s all and that’s why I keep coming out here. It’s hard, but I have to keep doing it.”

Hatcher said it’s hard to believe it’s already been 10 years since Dillon’s death with no answers being found in that time.

Sadly, Jennifer has also lost several other members of her family, including her mother, father and Dillon’s sister Kimberly, all within several years of Dillon’s death.

“And losing Kimberly didn’t help me none. I’m all alone in this world, I feel.”

WWAY reached out to the Wilmington Police Department and a spokesperson said there isn’t any new information in the investigation into Dillon’s death.
