“100 Summers of Style” exhibit at Fort Fisher Historic Site
FORT FISHER, NC (WWAY) — To celebrate Carolina Beach’s 100th anniversary, a temporary exhibit is now open on the second floor of the Fort Fisher Historic Site. “100 Summers of Style” is a temporary display that takes visitors through decades of swimwear fashion, from the 1920s to the 1980s.
The exhibit is a collaboration between the Town of Carolina Beach, the Fort Fisher Historic Site, UNCW and local collector Elaine Henson, who provided the vintage pieces on display.
With 14 swimsuits spanning nearly a century, the exhibit offers a look at how beachwear has changed over time.
Becky Sawyer, Collections Manager at Fort Fisher, says the exhibit appeals to a wide range of visitors.
“We get a lot of families that come in here and the guys are interested in military history, but the wives and the daughters might not, and so they are seeing this and thinking, ‘oh cool, we can relate too.’”
“100 Summers of Style” will remain on display through the end of the year.
