$100,000 Powerball ticket sold in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — No one in North Carolina won the grand prize in last night’s Powerball jackpot, but several players, including one in Wilmington, won some big bucks.

The North Carolina Education Lottery says says there were 19 big wins in the Tar Heel state, including a pair of $2 million winners with one sold in Wake County and the other in Cumberland County.

Three other tickets won turned a $3 investments into $100,000. One of those Power Play tickets, which matched four white balls and the Powerball, were sold at the Speedway at 2395 Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington. The usual $50,000 prize on those tickets was doubled thanks to the X2 Power Play feature last night.

The NCEL says 14 other tickets won $50,000 across the state by matching four white balls and the Powerball, including two sold in Onslow County at the Food Lion on Old Folklstone Road in Sneads Ferry and the Handy Mart on Lejeune Blvd. in Jacksonville.

The North Carolina Education Lottery says it sold a single-day record of $27.8 million worth of lottery tickets yesterday, which includes $20.9 million for the Powerball alone. The agency says earnings from the Powerball sales mean the lottery will exceed its goal of raising $529 million for education this year.

In Saturday’s drawing, a Burgaw man won a $150,000 prize before taxes by matching the four white balls and the Powerball with the Power Play X3.

For prizes greater than $5,000, 25 percent federal tax and 5.75 percent state tax are automatically withheld, the lottery commission says.
