$120,000 grant helps area farmers through Feast Down East
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Feast Down East got a big boost this week. The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation awarded the organization a $120,000 grant spread out over two years, to support programs and opportunities in agriculture throughout the region.
Executive director Jane Steigerwald said this money will do a lot of good. She said it will help the organization reach out to and train more local farmers.
“The grant is key to us continuing the work that we do. We need community support. We need the support of organizations such as Z. Smith Reynolds, that recognizes the value of what we’re doing and that we are an economic driver for the community,” Steigerwald said.
Feast Down East is also in the works to open another distribution point in Leland. The hope is that the new location will better serve the Brunswick and Columbus county areas.
Steigerwald said they hope to have that location open by the fall.
