13-year-old arrested following threats to shoot up Williston Middle School

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A 13-year-old was arrested Sunday after allegedly posting threats on Snapchat about a potential shooting at Williston Middle School, according to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began when a parent reported the threatening message using the Say Something anonymous reporting system. The initial Snapchat post from the teen said they were going to shoot up Williston.
While deputies were investigating the first post, the teen allegedly posted a picture on Snapchat of themselves and another person in disguise holding a gun.
The sheriff’s office identified the boy and secured a search warrant for his home. Deputies found firearms during the search and arrested the teenager. The guns were seized from the home.
The sheriff’s office confirmed the teen did not attend Williston Middle School.
No word yet on the other person pictured with a gun and whether they will face charges.
The incident remains under investigation.
