17th annual National Missing Persons Conference this weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The CUE (Community United Effort) Center for Missing Persons is holding its 17th annual National Missing Persons conference in Wilmington this weekend.

The conference officially kicked off Friday morning at Hotel Lela/Tru by Hilton in Wilmington.

Locals and families from 14 different states gathered for support and to be further educated about missing persons.

Law enforcement, families, survivors, advocates and other agencies attended for all sides to mix together and be heard.

Founder of CUE, Monica Caison, shares the overall goal of the event.

“Our goal is to get people educated, the victims to get empowered. To law enforcement to start remembering some names. Maybe get some ideas on how to even work their case. And to have some more empathy for the victims that are left behind,” Caison said.

The conference ends Sunday at noon and Caison encourages people to attend the candlelight vigil Saturday night starting at 7:30pm at Water Street Park. Candles will be provided.
