NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An 18-year-old has been charged after he allegedly hit a 5-year-old with his dirt bike on April 2nd.

According to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Camren Isaiah Crème, 18, operated a dirt bike and allegedly struck a young boy who was riding a scooter in Smith Creek Park.

The impact resulted in significant injuries to the child, who was transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment.

Crème has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury, a felony offense under North Carolina law.

New Hanover Sheriff Lieutenant Jerry Brewer said no motorized vehicles are allowed at any county park.

“No motorized vehicles are allowed,” Brewer said. “That includes e-bikes, that includes, obviously dirt bikes and ATVs, which is our biggest problem is dirt bikes and ATVs in the parks. We have that constantly, daily with issues with that.”

He made his first court appearance Thursday afternoon and received an unsecured bond of $20,000.
