UPDATE: Navy vet wins $1M lottery ticket sold in Pender County

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Navy veteran from Burgaw is $1 million richer tonight.

Lottery officials said a $1 million Mega Millions ticket was sold at the Food Lion on US 117 North Bypass in Burgaw. They say Charlie Thur, who served for 20 years in the military, got the lucky ticket. After taxes, Thur took home a check of $692,500.

“I knew I’d won something,” Thur said. “I just didn’t know how much.”

Thur said he plans to pay off his mortgage, share with his family and donate to his church and the Wounded Warrior Project.
