2 utility workers hit by truck, 1 dead in Hampstead

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — A utility worker is dead and another injured after they were hit by a pick-up truck along US 17 in Pender County, according to Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the crash happened on US 17 near Sloop Point Road in Hampstead around 2 p.m.

Investigators say a pick-up was heading north on 17 when it hit two utility workers killing Jereme Alan Holt, 40, of Burlington. The second suffered minor injuries, Highway Patrol said.

The trooper investigating the case did not return several calls for information on the driver or the charges in the case.
